Author Guidelines

Brief Communications in Cardio-Renal-Metabolic Diseases publishes concise, high-quality scholarly work across the cardio-renal-metabolic disease continuum. The journal is dedicated exclusively to short-format publications to enable rapid dissemination of clinically and publicly relevant evidence.

1. Article Types

The journal accepts the following article categories, all limited to approximately 1000 words (excluding references):

  • Brief Original Articles
  • Mini Reviews
  • Case Reports and Case Series
  • Clinical Images and Short Reports
  • Practice and Policy Briefs
  • Mini Consensus Statements
  • Patient Safety and Health Equity Briefs

2. Word Limits and Structure

  • Main text: up to 1000 words
  • Abstract: up to 200 words (structured for original research)
  • Tables/Figures: maximum of 2
  • References: maximum of 15

3. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared in clear, concise English and submitted as a Microsoft Word document.

This journal follows a double-blinded peer review process. To ensure anonymity of both authors and reviewers, author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and any identifying information must be included only on the Title Page. The main manuscript file should not contain any author-identifying details, including names, institutions, funding information, or self-identifying statements. Manuscripts that do not comply with these requirements may be returned for correction prior to peer review.

Manuscripts must be submitted online through the journal’s submission system. Authors are required to upload two separate files: (1) a Title Page file and (2) a Main Text file, to ensure double-blinded peer review.

Title Page File

The Title Page should be uploaded as a separate file and must include the following information:

  • Full title of the manuscript
  • Short running title (if applicable)
  • Full names of all authors
  • Author affiliations (department, institution, city, country)
  • Corresponding author details (name, email address, phone number)
  • Funding information
  • Conflicts of interest disclosure
  • Acknowledgements (if any)

This file will not be shared with reviewers.

Main Text File

The Main Text file must be fully anonymized and should not contain any author-identifying information. It should include:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Main manuscript text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, as applicable)
  • References
  • Tables and figures (with legends)

Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, funding details, institutional identifiers, and self-identifying statements must not appear in the main text. References to the authors’ previous work should be written in the third person to maintain anonymity.

4. Formatting Requirements

- Font: Times New Roman

- Font size: 12

- Line spacing: Double

- Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides

- Page numbers should be included

5. Referencing Style

The journal follows the Vancouver referencing style.

6. Ethical Requirements

All studies involving human participants must comply with institutional ethics committee approval and the Declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent is required for case reports and clinical images. Authors must disclose conflicts of interest and sources of funding.

7. Peer Review

All submissions undergo editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review. Editorial decisions are based on scientific quality, ethical standards, clarity, and relevance.

8. Copyright and Open Access

Authors retain copyright of their work. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license, permitting non-commercial use with appropriate attribution.

9. Use of AI Tools

Any use of artificial intelligence tools for writing or data analysis must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript.

10. Submission Declaration

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work is original, not under consideration elsewhere, and approved by all listed authors.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
